Miss Maria Thibodeaux
Miss Maria Thibodeax taught cathcism for St. Mary's in the Papevert, which she owned up until the family sold it to Charlie Chauvin. Brothers Louis and Emile Balot were butchers. When Louis Balot, (always pronounced Lou-ee, Maggie Beaud's husband), moved with his family from the Balot house to New Orleans, he gave Miss Maria Thibodeaux those two bells (pictured below). They rang these bells while coming up the River Road with their horse drawn cart loaded with meat to alert customers ahead of time to get their money out and come out to buy meat.
Miss Maria taught catechism in the Pape Vert for over (15) years. Above is her certificate from Archbishop Rummel secured by Fr. Chauve, She used these bells to summon student back into their large Pape Vert Dining room after recess between religious classes.
